CDL Driver/Forklift Operator

Full Time Position

Gabriel Building Supply is a full service lumberyard/home center that has been locally owned and family operated for over 80 years. Nothing
short of perfection is accepted when it comes to customer service and providing value to our customers. 

We currently have openings for Drivers at the Ponchatoula location.  Class A or B CDL is required for the large trucks. We are also looking for drivers with a Chauffer's License for smaller trucks. 

Responsibilities Include:

The main responsibility of this position is the delivery of customer merchandise in a timely, safe and efficient manner. Other duties may be assigned as needed, including but not limited to, customer loading in pick-up area, and assembly and loading of customer orders. The ideal applicant is hard-working, trustworthy, self-motivated and a team player. Employees in this position are required to interact with customers on the job site in a friendly, helpful manner and may have to assist in customer service issues as they arise. 

Job Requirements:

  • Class A or B CDL  **or** Chauffeur's License
  • At least 18 years of age 
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
  • Read, write and communicate using English language sufficient to  perform job functions
  • Ability to operate store equipment including forklifts and pallet jacks, forklift training/certification will be provided
  • Physical ability to move large, bulky and/or heavy merchandise
  • Ability to read maps and follow specific delivery directions and instructions
  • Ability to work in both inside and outside environmental conditions
  • Physical ability to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, sitting and other activities necessary to perform job duties

This is a 5 day/45 hour workweek, including Saturdays. Benefits are available after completion of 90 day probationary period. Hourly rate will be determined depending on experience. Pre-employment drug testing will be required, as well as random sample throughout employment. Additional basic skills testing may be required, will be administered internally.

No experience is required. The ideal applicant is hard-working, trustworthy, self-motivated and a team player. Employees in this position are required to interact with customers on the job site in a friendly, helpful manner and may have to assist in customer service issues as they arise. 

Job Requirements:

The main requirements of this position is to have an exceptional  PERSONALITY and provide excellent CUSTOMER SERVICE. Always dress neatly, have a good appearance.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Promptly be at your position at required time 
  • Counting and maintaining register drawer
  • Sales transactions
  • Greet all customers upon entering the store and offer assistance in locating merchandise or direct them to sales if needed
  • Answering the telephone promptly and paging departments clearly. 
  • Knowledge of the products and how they are entered into the computer is essential
  • Handeling returned merchandise
  • Connecting customers with assistance for order pick ups
  • Keeping your register area clean and organized
  • Be a good example to other employees and customers
