How To Stay Organized While Spring Cleaning

How to stay organized while spring cleaning, we're here to help; Gabriel Building Supply Ponchatoula, La.; A young woman cleans her white shelves at home

Spring is a great time to get rid of all the clutter and extra “stuff” that accumulated over the past year. However, coming up with a plan of attack for spring cleaning can be a daunting task. Without a proper plan, you may lose momentum, and spring cleaning will turn into another item that stays on your to-do list—indefinitely. Follow these tips to make sure you’re set up for success when spring cleaning this year.

Plan it out

It is possible to complete your spring cleaning project in one weekend, but you’ll need to stay focused and have a plan for what you want to accomplish—and when. Start by planning out which rooms need the most attention, and rank them so you know the top priority areas. If plans change and you can’t get to everything, you’ll be satisfied that you tackled the most-needed places first.

Stay focused

That’s why having a plan is super important! Going through old stuff can lead you through a three-hour trip down memory lane. In the end, you’ll find that your time is gone, but you haven’t accomplished much. Set items aside that will take longer than 30 minutes to go through and leave them for another time.

Ask for help

Don’t feel like you need to tackle this entire project on your own. Get the family involved by having your children go through their rooms themselves. You can assist if needed, but having your children take charge for what they clean, give away, donate, or throw out teaches them responsibility and helps them appreciate what they have. If you must have the house quiet while cleaning, have your spouse or relative take the kids out for a few hours on a nice Saturday afternoon so you can knock out some of the more time-consuming projects.

Donate unwanted items

One person’s trash is another person’s treasure, they say! Donate unwanted items that are in decent condition to local thrift stores. Many thrift stores use the proceeds to fund community projects, so you are giving back at the same time. It’s a great way to help our community!

Keep the right tools on hand

Once you go through your house room by room, you’re bound to discover some home maintenance tasks that need tackling. Whether you need a detailed paintbrush to do some touch-up work in your bedroom or need a screwdriver to fix that jiggly doorknob, Gabriel Building Supply has all the home improvement items you need for spring cleaning, DIY projects, and renovations.
